The best ideas are often the simplest ones, and this can
truly be said of the chimney balloon. Initially designed in
1990 to stop chimney draughts, it quickly became clear
that the chimney balloon had many other benefits
including the following:-
· Stops chimney draughts
· Reduces outside noise entering the room
· Reduces heat loss
· Keeps back debris, soot and birds mess
· Allows a little ventilation
· Saves you money
· Use over and over
The chimney balloon not only stops cold draughts
coming down your chimney, but also stops the warm
air from disappearing up your chimney.
The chimney balloon is completely safe and designed
to be used again and again.
A cheap effective solution to a common problem.

Where does the chimney balloon go ?
About a foot up, above the fireplace opening
What is it for ?
It stops draughts, heat loss, soot, debris, birds mess,
and reduces noise.
Is there any ventilation ?
There is a curve at one end, which forms two little
triangular tunnels, thus allowing just enough ventilation
without allowing draughts.
What is the material made from ?
It’s not rubber, because rubber perishes in chimneys.
It’s a fairly thin, but flexible tri-laminate, a special
“hi-tech” material. The outer layer is tough, the inner is
an air barrier layer, and the core is a heat-shrink
material. It’s transparent to aid fitting.
How do I remember it’s there ?
Each balloon comes with a small red label which you
place in the grate, or by the gas tap.
What happens if I forget to take it out ?
If you forget, it will shrink in about 40 seconds and let
the smoke and fumes go up the chimney. You’ll need
a new chimney balloon however!
Can you get special size balloons ?
Yes almost any size can be obtained.
How long will it last ?
Expect at least 4 years of life from your balloon.
